Conceived in 1954, ESADE was born in 1958. The idea originated form the need to create an institution that would prepare students to create and effectively run businesses.

In addition to its existing campuses at Barcelona, Madrid and Buenos Aires, ESADE is in the process of developing another campus at Creapolis. ESADE enjoys the advantage of being located in one of Europe's principal Mediterranean ports and the second largest city in Spain. A well equipped library which forms part of ESADE's information and knowledge service primarily houses management and law related volumes in addition to business, economics, political science, sociology and international relations. Accommodation at Barcelona ranges from student flats, to private homes, hotels and residences. Some options include Residencia Universitària Sarriá [halls of residence], very close to ESADE and modernized student halls.
